Se le ha presentado en los medios como la primera mujer transgénero en competir en el certamen Miss Universo, pero en realidad junto a Miss España, Ángela Ponce, desfilará este 2018 en Tailandia la representante de Mongolia, Belguun Batsukh, quien también nació hombre.
Ellas dos son ya un referente para los niños y adolescentes trans alrededor del mundo, independientemente de si alguna gana la corona.
No obstante, en las redes sociales circula un meme en el que se burlan del hecho de que la mujer más hermosa de España sea un “güey”. Visto así, parecería que a falta de una belleza naturalmente femenina los jurados que el pasado 29 de junio eligieron a Ángela de 27 años entre 20 jovencitas, echaron mano de lo que había.
Por ello, hay que ver la designación de la miss de España y la de Mongolia como una declaración a favor de los derechos de la diversidad sexual, no como una elección justa ni, mucho menos, como un acto de discriminación a las mujeres biológicas.
“Si mi paso por aquí contribuye a que todo el mundo avance un pequeño escaloncito, para mí es una corona personal que va a venir conmigo siempre”, dijo Ángela a The Associated Press en las oficinas de Miss Universo en Madrid.
Y no negó que planea usar su participación en el certamen como una plataforma para hacer notar las altas tasas de suicidios entre adolescentes transgénero, y de cómo los códigos legales siguen marginando a los hombres y mujeres trans alrededor del mundo:
“Creo que es importante que alguien diga estoy aquí y formo parte de la diversidad de lo que es ser mujer y tengo los mismos derechos de todas”, declaró Ponce.
ACTIVISMO Y MODELAJE:
Luego que la colombiana Valeria Morales dijera que “un reinado de belleza, como es Miss Universo, es para mujeres que nacimos mujeres”, Ponce respondió en su cuenta de Instagram:
“Mi finalidad es dar a conocer mi realidad y hablar al mundo un poco sobre la educación en la diversidad que es tan escasa, un factor importante y que seguramente terminaría con tanto bullying, prejuicios y violencia”.
Ángela ha usado esa misma plataforma para difundir sus fotografías en traje de baño. Evidentemente sus pechos son operados pero ella insiste en que esa cirugía no es diferente a la que se realizan otras mujeres por razones puramente estéticas:
“Hay mujeres con pene y hombres con vagina, porque la única clave para ser mujer es ser y sentirse mujer”, dijo en una entrevista con The New York Times.
Como modelo transexual no siempre las cosas han sido fáciles. Antes de ganar este certamen, en 2015 fue descalificada en la etapa España de Miss Mundo. Y cuando hacía pasarelas algunas marcas de ropa la rechazaron luego de enterarse de que era transgénero, pues apenas se realizó la vaginoplastia hace tres años.
Aunque el triunfo de Ángela en Miss España ha sido celebrado por la comunidad LGBTI como una victoria colectiva, un paso adelante en un país donde todavía hay mucho que avanzar en la igualdad y una mayor visibilidad para las personas con identidad de género no binario, también hay voces feministas que critican la participación de Ponce en un concurso que reduce a las mujeres a objeto de belleza física y no contribuyen a la normalización de las personas trans.
Para Ángela, ganar esta corona es una forma válida de activismo. “No podemos ser hipócritas”, señaló. “La belleza vende. Si vende para comprar ropa, el pan, y hasta una lata de atún, también debería ayudarnos a enviar un mensaje de igualdad”.
CRÍMENES DE ODIO:
La transfobia es un problema global. Y si bien España ha sido pionero en la protección de los derechos de la diversidad sexual, en el resto del mundo todavía hay muchas batallas legales qué luchar para que se reconozca, por ejemplo, la identidad de género a las personas que no se han sometido a una reasignación de sexo: esto es, que un hombre que parece mujer aunque conserva su pene y sus testículos, tenga el derecho de llamarse como quiera y de aparecer en los documentos con la imagen que va por la vida; eso le abriría puertas laborales a una comunidad condenada a oficios informales y, peor aún, a la prostitución.
Apenas recientemente la Organización Mundial de la Salud retiró las identidades trans (travesti, transgénero y transexual) de su lista de desórdenes mentales.
Mientras que un estudio publicado el año pasado por la plataforma europea de colectivos tránsgenero halló que el 77.5% de las 885 personas mayores de 16 años encuestadas en Georgia, Serbia, Polonia, España y Suecia, han contemplado el suicidio y el 24.5% de ellas lo habían intentado al menos una vez.
Brasil, una de las naciones con mayor número de habitantes transgénero y donde la transexualidad parece haberse normalizado, es también el país con mayor número de asesinatos por transfobia.
COMPETENCIA DESLEAL:
Sin embargo, visto el asunto con menos teoría de género y más sentido común, es verdad que elegir a una mujer transexual como representante de España envía un mensaje de inclusión a todo el mundo pero también consagra una situación (des)ventajosa.
