El impresionante juego de pelota ancestral, conocido también como el “juego de los dioses”, cautivó a los porteños y al turismo nacional y extranjero que se dieron cita en la plaza Juárez, lugar donde el grupo Nahual JPA Ulama, Uarukua Chanakua, hizo su primera presentación y exhibición de este fabuloso juego prehispánico.
Este viernes 31 de diciembre, en la Plaza Juárez, será la segunda presentación a las 19:30 horas, donde se volverá a disfrutar de esta tradicional representación del juego del universo, donde la pelota representa al sol y los jugadores los planetas.
El evento es gratuito y forma parte del programa “Manzanillo vive la cultura 2021”, como parte de los festejos para despedir el año.
A la hora anunciada, los integrantes el grupo Nahual, salieron al escenario para hacer una ofrenda a los dioses de los cuatro puntos cardinales. Luego se hizo la danza del agua y a la madre tierra, con la participación del público.
El juego de pelota inició con bastones, un juego que se conservó por milenios en la zona de Michoacán y en el occidente de México. Hay que destacar que entre las tradiciones de los antiguos mayas o mexicas, se encuentra el juego de pelota, que más que un deporte constituye un ritual con el cual, se agradecía por la buena cosecha y pedir a los dioses su protección.
Finalmente, los jugadores presentaron el juego de cadera, en una cancha trazada sobre el piso, que representa el universo, quien lograba cruzar la pelota hasta el final de la cancha anotaba un punto.
Originalmente, la pelota utilizada en este ritual es de hule, los guerreros se dividen en dos equipos, los cuales deberán anotar dicha pelota en alguno de los aros de piedra colocados en diversos puntos de la cancha y cierta distancia del suelo, lo complejo es que este lanzamiento debe ser con la cadera únicamente.
Estos guerreros debían ser fuertes pues representaban a los mismos dioses, por lo que se dice que el equipo que perdiera debía ser sacrificado, que aun siendo la muerte misma era un honor para el participante dar la vida ante sus dioses.
Por ser también un ritual es necesario un momento de purificación antes de comenzar, por ello, era necesario la presencia de un sacerdote maya que consagrara el juego. En nuestros días es común observar representaciones de este acontecimiento en la zona arqueológica Teotihuacán, Templo Mayor en la ciudad de México, en Chichen Itzá, en la que los visitantes disfrutan de un gran espectáculo.
